![]() ![]() How great it would be if our hard drives themselves can function as a PKB. And once one has multiple silos to search for data, everything gets more complex. Also, there's always the mental confusion of whether to keep material within a standard operating system file/folder structure, or within a PKB, etc. graceful exit of data, and don't scale well when so many items are put into the program such that they essentially become replacement "file explorers" for a new virtual file system. That's why people use other PKB programs such as ultrarecall, treeprojects, onenote, evernote, mybase, myinfo, zoot, etc.īut these PKB programs create their own anxieties, e.g. Historically, simple folders/subfolders in an operating system have been inadequate for this job because they can't easily save different kinds of info together (e.g., hard to drag an email to a folder in a useful way), the inability to tag or provide other metadata to the item, or to clump relevant items easily (e.g., indent/outdent as in an outline). In the course of any project, we usually get files, emails, webpage clips, snippets of information (txt or rtf) that need to be grouped together. I would like to see PMS because that brings xyplorer one step closer to a personal knowledge base ("PKB") system. ![]() XYPlorer has a manual sort right now, but once you navigate away from the folder, that sort order is forgotten. In this forum, various folks have asked for a persistent manual sort ("PMS", the acronym isn't a great brand). At Don's suggestion, I'm posting a "wish" for 2014. ![]()
