If you are not sure which Ubuntu you are running the enter uname -a in a terminal and the output should tell you, sometimes 64-bit will show as x86_64, but you get the idea, just be sure to get and install the proper version of Java, and I reccommend the version from the Sun web site (especially if going with the 64-bit version. In other words, uninstall IcedTea via the Synaptic Package Manager and then install both JRE and JDK (for future use, just in case) via the sun.com/java web site and be sure to download the version you need, 32 or 64 bit. JRE, really you should need the JRE to play a game within the Java Runtime Environment, but first to the IcedTea issue, IcedTea is Ubuntu's version of JRE without going into more detail, so I would uninstall Iced Tea and then do an uninstall and reinstall of the Java utilities that you need and/or want. That is another good question, about the JDK vs. some things i can google, but this is too much for me.Īctually, i uninstalled openJDK java runtime in ubuntu software center and installed sun java runtime so i dont understand why its using openJDK java runtime. jar and from tar.gz with the same result. Program will exit.btw i uninstalled then freecol using ubuntu software centrer and tryed to install it from. if i run it from terminal i get this /usr/games/freecolĮxception in thread "main" : Can't load library: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.soĪt (ClassLoader.java :1646)Īt 0(Runtime.java:787)Īt (System.java:1022)Īt $NativeLibrary.load(Native Method)Īt 0(ClassLoader.jav a:1747)Īt (ClassLoader.java :1664)Īt 0(Runtime.java:840)Īt (System.java:1047)Īt .run(LoadLibr aryAction.java:67)Īt .run(LoadLibr aryAction.java:47)Īt (Native Method)Īt (Toolkit.java:1614)Īt .(Dimension.java:87)Īt net.sf.freecol.FreeCol.(FreeCol.java:106)Ĭould not find the main class: net.sf.freecol.FreeCol. but if i want to run it from menu it doesnt run. Sauerbraten isn't half bad for a Quake 3 clone.I installed game freecol on my ubuntu 9.10 from ubuntu software center. So hey, even though people can't get it in to their thick skull that there are other things besides quake out there, and that this is not some kind of lame based on quake source project, we are certainly moving forward! and now with the bump maps I have heard comparisons with Quake 4!!! Then with the better maps people thought it looked more like Quake 3 Sauer started life as looking like a Quake 2 clone Once we got the really HQ maps like metl3 it was perceived as Quake 1, sometimes even Quake 2 Clone I started Cube as an advanced Wolfenstein 3D clone :P unfortunately the general community say its just a Quake 3 clone. On the community promotion Aardappel, I have been trying to convince my ISP to host a server for Sauerbraten. There's an amusing exchange in that thread between Passa (a Sauer developer, I think) and Aardappel (the main Sauer developer), where Passa notes community confusion over to Sauerbraten's identity. Entitled, "normalmap version", this release presumably focuses on the introduction of normal maps to Sauer's rendering capabilities. In what could be a Free Gamer exclusive, I spotted an update to Sauerbraten. It is beginning to look absolutely beautiful. There are some screenshots from the latest VDrift. Can't blame them for that though, and it's not worth fixing so I can play at 3fps. I tried the Windows install on my laptop with it's integrated not-really-3D card and VDrift looked like a toddlers colouring book - bright and messy. That makes it really easy to accidentally move units in the wrong direction by pressing a direction too many times with the previous unit.Īnyway, since 0.5 != 1.0, I look forward to improvements in upcoming releases.įollowing up the VDrift release earlier this month, the VDrift team have provided an autopackage to help people get drifting. when moving a unit, if it finishes it's move, the game switches to the next unit automatically.
